  Annie. She has a comforting phone voice.

• What's your dream project?

  Writing and designing an online/offline interactive curriculum for elementary schoolers about the oceans.

• When your life is over, what would you like people to say about you?

  She wrote things worth remembering.

• What's the weirdest job you've ever had (before Free Range)?

  Veterinary intern at my local animal hospital in middle school. I didn't realize loving animals meant I'd have to deal with stool samples.

  The dance floor.

  Ellen's enthusiasm for advocacy started on the playground in fifth grade, defending frogs and toads from torture, and she's been an advocate for human rights, animal welfare, and U.S. education reform issues ever since. From organizations like Amnesty International, the Crimes of War Project, and Human Rights Education Associates to classrooms in Washington D.C., Ellen has combined her love of language, writing, teaching and training with a desire to empower others to create real change. She holds a Master's from Harvard University, where she investigated the impact of narratives on the way people learn about themselves and the world, and uncovered century-old mysteries surrounding the history of a small progressive school in Cambridge -- a thread of discovery that has turned into a book project. In her free time, she sings, hunts for vintage dresses, deciphers early 20th century calligraphy in pursuit of her story, and attempts to cook authentic Indian curries. She dreams of writing a food blog.
