My Jewish Learning / Kveller Websites
Their role as online educators:
To empower people to navigate Jewish life with confidence and creativity.
Brought to life as an approachable and usable resource:
MyJewishLearning.com is the go-to transdenominational source for all aspects of Jewish life. Put simply, it is a really big website, including everything from recipes to Torah commentaries, blogs, videos, and countless backgrounders on Jewish teachings, customs and beliefs. But having a lot of great content only matters if people can find it. When we began our work, many of these resources were buried nine clicks away and served up in a design that was dated and hard to navigate.
Rounds of collaboration involved content inventories, mapping user paths and identifying more modern and intuitive navigation schemes. This work led to features such as mega-dropdown menus that efficiently direct people to what they’re looking for — a trend that was just gaining popularity on major media sites but was nowhere to be found in the world of Jewish education. Beyond all that, we created a homepage design full of entry points for different types of users.
Our hard work paid off. In both 2010 and 2011, MyJewishLearning.com won first place for outstanding website by the American Jewish Press Association. Beyond that, the rock-solid architecture of MyJewishLearning.com was repurposed for its sister site on Jewish parenting, Kveller.com, leveraging MJL's original investment.
