Riding the wave of her breakout hit, The Story of Stuff, Annie Leonard wanted to walk her huge fan base through the finer points of our out-of-control materials economy. So we worked together to write and produce a series of shorts on topics ranging from cosmetics to climate change. One of our favorites is the Story of Bottled Water which explains the pernicious corporate strategy of “manufactured demand.” After the first million viewers, the bottled water industry tried to strike back with their own weak rebuttal film, but their arguments fell flat. Now at two million views and counting, The Story of Bottled Water has made resistance to this wasteful product a mainstream stance.
