When activists put a proposition on the ballot to make life better for farm animals, many humans scoffed. California faced a lot of problems and farm animal cruelty didn’t rise to the top of most voters’ minds. And then there was the fact that agribusiness giants have deep pockets and a hatred of regulation. Thanks to the heroic work of the Humane Society, the proposition was polling above 60% but it’s a fact of life in California that support always plummets in the last month. That’s where Free Range, a dancing pig, and Stevie Wonder came in. To the tune of “Superstition” we rocked the barnyard and grabbed the attention of hundreds of thousands of voters and several California TV stations. Come election day, the unlikely proposition sailed through and is now law.
